Policy & Procedure No.27
1. We provide opportunities for all staff members to update their personal learning and development. Every member of staff is encouraged to complete a wide range of training courses.
2. We seek to promote equality of opportunity and to eliminate discrimination defined under the terms of the Race Relations Act, Equal Pay Act, Sex Discrimination and the Disability Act in all our employment.
3. Employment
a. All posts are advertised, nominations short-listed by the Lead Practitioner/Manager and Committee, then the interview process implemented.
b. Applicants are given accurate information about posts through advertisements.
c. The interview panel will be led by the Lead Practitioner/Manager and assisted by the Committee. Where interviews are held for the Lead Practitioner/Manager position the Early Years Advisor will be invited to support the interviewing panel.
d. Interview panels will be aware of our commitment to equality of opportunity in our employment practices.
e. References are followed up for potential employees.
f. On appointment, staff will have appropriate qualifications and experience for their position.
g. EY2/DBS checks are carried out.
h. An induction will be held for all new staff. They will be provided with an employee pack.
i. A probationary period of 3 months will be implemented.
4. Current Staff
a. All staff members will be issued with a contact and copies of the Playgroup Network Grievance Procedure.
b. All staff members will have an annual review and future training needs identified.
c. Staff wages are reviewed annually. A report of any changes to staff responsibilities is to be supplied by the Lead Practitioner/Manager.
d. All staff will attend regular meetings to plan future activities and monitor children’s development.
e. We ensure at least 50% of staff present at all times are NVQ Level 2 qualified.
f. Where the stipulations of 4.e. cannot be met, an action plan will be drawn up to show how we will achieve this.
5. Students
We welcome students into the Pre-School. To safeguard everyone concerned, we accept students if:
a. We have written confirmation from their school/college.
b. They attend an induction meeting to inform them of our policies, especially Health and Safety, Child Protection, Discipline and Confidentiality.
c. The student will not be allowed unsupervised access to children.
d. The student will not be included in the adult : child ratio.
